Small Group Tutoring

Method Labs small group tutoring combines personalized instruction with the benefits of learning alongside peers. With a maximum of six students per group, tutors can provide targeted support, address individual learning needs, and give students plenty of opportunities to ask questions and practice new skills. Our small groups are designed to build understanding, confidence, and independence while keeping students engaged and supported.

Math

Our math tutoring is designed to strengthen the skills students need while keeping their learning connected to what is happening in the classroom. Students begin with a placement assessment so we can identify their current strengths, skill gaps, and the group that will provide the right level of challenge and support.

Each Math Methods group is matched to specific grade levels and aligned with the learning standards and progression of skills students encounter in school. Rather than teaching an unrelated sequence of topics, we intentionally coordinate instruction so students can strengthen foundational skills while receiving support with the concepts they are currently expected to learn. Students shouldn't spend the school day working on one area of mathematics only to arrive at tutoring and be placed into a completely different curriculum.

And at Method Labs, math tutoring means working with a tutor—not working through a computer program. We prioritize human-led instruction, mathematical discussion, and paper-and-pencil problem solving. Students work through problems, show their thinking, ask questions, learn from mistakes, and receive immediate feedback from a real person who can recognize why they are struggling and adjust instruction accordingly.

Our goal isn't simply to help students complete more math problems. It's to help them understand the mathematics behind them, close learning gaps, and develop the skills and confidence to be more successful in their everyday classroom.

Reading

MS Math Methods

Middle school math sessions cover the priority standards and general progression for 6th and 7th grade.

Foundational Math Methods

Strong readers need more than practice—they need instruction that targets the specific skills standing between them and confident, independent reading. At Method Labs, students begin with a placement assessment so we can identify their current strengths and determine where additional instruction is needed, from foundational decoding and fluency to vocabulary and reading comprehension.

Students are then placed into a Reading Methods group based on their instructional needs and grade level. Our reading instruction is aligned with grade-level learning standards and designed to complement what students are expected to do in school. We strengthen underlying reading skills while helping students develop the strategies they need to successfully access increasingly complex texts in their everyday classrooms.

And just like our math program, reading at Method Labs is human-led—not screen-led. Students aren't handed a tablet and asked to work independently through a reading program. They read real texts, work directly with a tutor, discuss what they read, practice skills with guidance, and receive immediate feedback. Tutors can listen to a student read, notice patterns in their errors, ask questions, model strategies, and adjust instruction in ways a computer program simply cannot.

Our goal is not just to help students get through a passage or answer more comprehension questions. We want students to become stronger, more fluent, and more thoughtful readers—with the skills and confidence to tackle reading independently both in and out of the classroom.
